INDIA AND US LEADING THE WORLD WITH ENERGY LIFE AND SUSTAINABILITY

U.S. CELEBRATES NATIONAL RENEWABLE ENERGY DAY WITH BIG INVESTMENTS FROM THE BIDDEN-HARIS ADMINISTRATION - JUST LIKE INDIA COMMITS INVESTMENT TO GREEN ENERGY FUND FOR GROWTH.

Remembering quotes from great leaders:

In the words of Mahatma Gandhi "Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed."
In the words of William Ruckelshaus "Nature provides a free lunch, but only if we control our appetites."

The National Renewable Energy Day is celebrated every year in the US on the March 21. This observance is to educate of the dangers of excessive us of fossil fuels and acts as an awareness campaign for the benefits of using alternative energy.  With surges in global warming and the catastrophic effect of air pollution, it is time for civil reforms and all human being to reflect on their impact on the world around us and make efforts to put planetary care in the forefront in preserving the ecosystem.

The Commitment and Vision
For a long time, humanity has relied on fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) as the main source of energy. As of 2019, 84% of primary energy consumption and 64% of electricity in the world was generated from fossil fuels. The share of renewables in global electricity generation jumped to nearly 28% in Q1 2020 from 26% in Q1 2019. The increase in renewables offseted mainly cost of coal and gas generation, with though those two sources still representing close to 60% of the global electricity supply.

The Hurdles and Path
Renewable energy development is expected to continue to grow rapidly over the next decade. However, the renewables still have a long way to go to replace oil, coal and natural gas as our primary sources of energy. The technology presently available still need to cost reductions to match the cost and economic efficiency for desired for mass adoption. Some of the most effective ways to promote the research and development of renewable energy technologies are through proper policies, incentive mechanisms, and mutual international cooperation - such as the agreement reached by the 195 countries participating in the Paris Climate Conference (COP21) to reduce emissions that would limit global warming to less than 2 degrees Celsius. The first and foremost way to achieve this goal is to divert from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources!

The Indian Journey for Net-Zero
The United States isn’t the only country that has a National Renewable Energy Day! India’s Renewable Energy Day (Akshay Urja Diwas) is celebrated annually on August with an intention of increasing government support for science and technology.

With great vision, policies and promotion, India witnessed the highest year over year growth in renewable energy with the addition of 9.83% renewable generation in 2022 -- setting the right tone for the rest of the world. The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi approved 240,000 Million INR to fund the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Enhancing India’s Manufacturing Capabilities and Enhancing Exports. India is now the 3rd most attractive destination for Renewable Energy Investment.

The USA Marching
The US, unlike before, has shown tremendous commitment in fueling the Renewable Sector.  As per the Department of Energy Statement,
“We’re working to implement the largest clean energy investments in U.S. history. Thanks to President Biden’s clean energy plan, the U.S. is poised to invest more than half a trillion dollars in clean energy and climate action over the next decade. Through these efforts, Americans are accessing savings, new jobs, and opportunities to be a part of our sustainable future”

In a recent statement the officials declared some of the Biden-Harris Administration’s renewable energy advancements and investments to date:

Batteries
Batteries are a renewable energy source that are critical to the clean energy transition. The Biden-Harris Administration seeks to draw on their versatility by making them more accessible and affordable for Americans.
To date, there have been $85 billion dollars of new U.S. battery manufacturing and supply chain investments under, including 111 new and expanded processing and manufacturing plants — enough energy to power 10 million electric vehicles each year. Thanks to these efforts, Americans will now have access to thousands of new jobs in this sector of the clean energy economy.

Solar Energy
Solar energy powers millions of homes and workplaces across the United States by driving heating, cooling, and lighting technologies and systems. Increasing the affordability of solar energy means that more and more communities can make simple, renewable energy upgrades.

Since President Biden took office, nearly $5 billion in solar manufacturing investments have been announced, including 47 manufacturing plants. Altogether, these investments are enough to power an additional 7 million homes per year.  Solar energy is the fastest growing and most affordable source of new electricity in America. The cost of solar energy systems has fallen dramatically, more Americans and businesses have taken advantage of clean energy.

HighFive Comments:

In November 2009, the United States and India launched the Partnership to Advance Clean Energy (PACE), which is working to accelerate inclusive, low carbon growth by supporting research and deployment of clean energy technologies. With the change in political regime in 2014, the Renewable Energy Industry in India has accelerated pace. The MODI administration has demonstrated strong leadership in Carbon Management and the Sovereign Global Duty.

In 2022, US renewable energy growth slowed due to rising costs and project delays driven by supply chain disruption, trade policy uncertainty, inflation, increasing interest rates, and interconnection delays. Many of these challenges will likely carry over into 2023, creating strong headwinds.
